Before My Real Estate Journey: When things changed
My story begins before my real estate journey. Through loss and working to fulfill a promise, I realized the life I was living did not align with my values. For so long, I chose the safe, stable route without ever questioning: What do I really want?
Everything in my life changed when we received the devastating diagnosis of my mother’s stage 4 cancer in 2014. As the eldest child, the responsibility of being my mother’s primary caretaker fell upon my shoulders. Juggling the demands of my corporate job with the emotional toll of watching a loved one battle a relentless illness, I soon realized the inherent clash between the rigid structure of my professional life and the need to be there for my mother.
It was a constant tug and pull, but at the end of the day, family will always come first. Throughout that year, I worked around my mom’s appointments, trying to maintain a good rapport at work while being there for her. It was emotionally and physically exhausting, but I did the best I could. When something life-changing happens, you start to realize where your true priorities lie.
In 2017, my mom passed away—it was heartbreaking to no longer have her guidance and support. As an immigrant from India, she worked hard to provide us with a good life and taught us to treat others as we want to be treated. Her final wish was to have her ashes spread in her homeland. It became a beacon of purpose amidst the grief.
I approached my employer, requesting a month off to embark on a journey to India for my mother. Immediately, they denied my request. At that moment, it clicked: They didn’t care about the people or families that were the backbone of the business. I handed in my resignation, quitting right then and there. No job was going to come in the way of fulfilling my mother’s dream.
So, I traveled to India and spread her ashes, just as I promised. It was the perfect way to honor her. From that point on, I made a vow to reshape my life, prioritizing the things that matter most.
Pursuing my real estate dream
Real estate became an interest of mine very early in life. At 20 years old, I had already bought my first investment property. From there, my passion only grew, wanting to help others build wealth through real estate. Right after my mother got sick, I decided to get my real estate license. Suddenly, there was a stronger desire to take control of my work and personal life!
Quitting my job was the final step—there was no going back from there. It was now or never. And I was more than ready to dive into the world of real estate and see where it took me.
One of the greatest things I sought was freedom. Freedom of my time, how I chose to run my business, and the type of people I worked with. It wasn’t just a career change; it was a commitment to live life on my terms, to reclaim control over my future.
Starting my real estate journey
The first year of this newfound journey was marked by a blend of fear and motivation. I was no longer confined by the shackles of a 9-to-5 routine. The flexibility of real estate allowed me to prioritize personal health and independence. With every deal closed, I felt a sense of accomplishment that I had never experienced before. I was making a big difference in people’s lives, one home at a time. This is my passion, and I love sharing it with others.
This decision to break free from a conventional job paved the way for a more enriching life, where every milestone was a testament to resilience and self-discovery. Inspired by the memory of my mother, I’m driven to continue building a life that is fulfilling and where I have a positive impact on others.
